How to read this Background on the inputs, the drawings, and the position table.
About the inputs
SLC assumes a rigid rectangular room with one primary listening position on the centreline. Real installations have doors, lighting tracks, and structural beams that constrain real-world placement — the per-format tolerance wedges show how much you can deviate without losing format compliance.
About the drawings
Top view and side view are drawn at actual room aspect. Each speaker icon sits at its nominal target position; the faint tolerance wedges show the permissible angular range. The optional screen rectangle surfaces conflicts where speaker positions land on the screen frame.
About the position table
Angles are signed from front centre — negative left, positive right. Speakers are grouped by layer (bed / height / top) with subtle banding. The origin key icon shows the front-left-floor coordinate convention.
What SLC isn't doing
SLC produces the idealised layout for an empty rectangular room. Real-room placement optimisation across competing constraints (doors, beams, masking, multiple listening positions) is what the paid Cinema Tools Online tier handles. RP22 layouts and Performance Level evaluation are paid-tier only.
